@James Lindsey, if "house-hacking" gives you the opportunity for FREE accommodation, then as long as the income from the other units covers your loan and maintenance/vacancy expenses, then your cash flow could still be seen as the amount you would otherwise be paying for rent (plus any surplus if any).
