Any liability claim will probably be made against the landlord AND the landlord's agent (look in mirror to identify that defendant).Remember, it still costs money, time and emotional bandwidth to defend a lawsuit against you that may eventually win.I think @Greg M. had it right - cut ties now.Think of it this way.

The moral of the story is even if you had all your paperwork in a row and you did everything to the legal standard if they get an attorney and sue you and you have to hire an attorney to defend yourself you will end up paying a large amount and legal costs even if you win.

Without having to pay a lawyer.You should also know, though, that if you do win and you decide to hire a lawyer, you normally can also get the judge to order the defendant to pay your lawyer's fees.
