I used to be into this and even went to a conference on it but then started investing in turnkey rentals and bigger stuff.

Robert and Russ have been doing syndications for a long time and have a conference that teaches that side of the business.  

biggest thing i see is too good to be true.first off   nationwide lender  NO lender other that wells or BoA type is nationwide.. 12 state require licesnes to do investor loans regardless of LLC or not if its one to 4 units licesne required.. thats the first tip.I even see that when i go to like the private money lenders conference in Vegas.. guys say we loan nationwide they are real companies but east coast based and don't have a clue that they need licenses say in Oregon CA NV ..

:)  I've known Chris for a few years through BP and my conference in Oakland.

He also has webinars and conference calls for free that connects a network of private lenders and note buyers. 

In the pre-digital age of yesteryear, people organized in their Rolodex the business cards they accumulated from attending meetings and conferences.

Just keep networking, find some people who are doing what you are talking about possibly doing (hint: the best ones aren't likely hanging out on BiggerPockets...so maybe networking at conferences, physical gatherings, etc.).Best of luck!
