First hand experience is the best teacher no doubt.

I'm not going to suggest anything but I will say that experience is the greatest teacher and what you learn through experience in this venture isn't going to be what you expect.

I am not talking about the acquaintances we have in our lives, like the postal worker or the teacher of our children.

What I found helpful;1) podcasts; Michael is clearly a talented and wise REI investor and teacher.

He is not hard to find on the internet, and is a great teacher and an even better person to know.  

I want to help but I am a crappy teacher.. :)  and for me what comes naturally to many simply does not.when I listened to about a 5 minutes section of your BP pod cast I said to myself that is a professional salesmen who has uber experience been around the block etc etc..  

But if you told me you wanted to become a teacher, I wouldn't call you scum just because *some* teachers are child molesters.

@Michael Quarles is an excellent teacher.

But here is my gripe with seasoned RE folks on this message board - as a former mathematics teacher and now VOIP engineer, I can relate to how intimidating a new career or learning new info can be.
