electric baseboard heat
4 December 2009 | 10 replies
hey guys and gals...i have no experience with baseboard heaters...however, the estimate to fix the duct work attached to my gas pack is astronomical...the price for a gas wall furnace is even higher...i can purchase enough heaters for a few hundred bucks...it's a 700 square foot apartment, 2 bed/1 bath...the lady at lowes said 3 of the medium sized units should heat the unit entirely..i've heard they can torch a building..how dangerous are they for children as well?

6 Heat/AC units installed brand new... 3,000 apiece?
2 February 2010 | 10 replies
You should get multiple quotes from various contractors so you can compare and contrast what each one has to offer. You'll find that HVAC quotes vary widely depend on quality of equipment, how much of the existing ductwork can be reused, experience of the installer, age of the installer, etc., etc.I like to hire licensed professionals "on the side" to get said work done.

A new forced air unit and duct work is going to get pricey in a hurry.Electric baseboard is an option, but would most likely require a new panel for each unit to pick up the load.

Repair or Replace? (furnace)
10 August 2009 | 21 replies
Some guys do mark up the parts some don't.The install price will vary from job to job depending on how much metal work they have to do and the change over from electric to gas.He needs to run a gas line - I am sure do some basic metal work to get the newer smaller furance into the duct work - may have to install a new stack - So while I agreew with Eddie and the rest about the average price - there are excpetions to the rule and you have named two - currently electric and old.
