I mean she went to a third tier law school and appears to be a sole practitioner... but still a lawyer.What I don't understand though is if she is trying to overturn the foreclosure... what do I have to do with that?

Especially the lean and mean solo practitioners who have to fight for their market share.

The other end of the spectrum are solo practitioners who usually went to local law schools (much less demanding/competitive), they advertise in the phone book, the name of their firm is usually their own name, and they usually list a long line of things they do--criminal, bankruptcy, traffic accidents, etc.  

Jeff- You certainly want a good real estate lawyer if you are going to be investing, but most general practitioners can help you with basic entity selection and formation. 

I would let them know you are looking for a referral of a solid tax practitioner that handles US Canada Cross Border specifically for smaller real estate investors.

A general practitioner takes 4 years medical training, a brain surgeon twelve.

Someone could make 10 dollars an hour and get  a mortgage but the hours get cut next week to 30 and next month they can't pay their bills.Meanwhile the self-employed person has reserves over what the house costs to buy and they have to write dozens of explanation letters and go with a non-conventional lender still at great rates but a lot of junk to deal with.I have a chiropractic doctor friend that makes tons of money but writes stuff down to lower taxes.
