My partner and I are total newbies, buying our first home in Brooklyn NY (which also happens to be a duplex multifamily).

I would like to know what does ACRIS mean. Does it mean you letting others know you are in contract with seller or does it mean the property already been to the closing and you registering in public records. 

I currently live in Brooklyn, NY but the market here is so expensive I am not sure I can realistically compete unless I can find one or two major investors willing to work with me.
