That would make sense but absent that, they have a duty to shareholders and the FDIC (Assuming they are FDIC regulated) to market the property for sale in a reasonable and logical manner.

In my judgement an LLC holding stock wouldn't offer any advantage because as a shareholder of a public entity I believe I am sufficiently shielded from liability.

You are correct, if an S-corp decides to distribute appreciated property to its shareholders, there will be a recognition of gain.Alternatively, in a partnership vehicle, this won't occur.
