I would suggest that you not give in to whatever emotional urges you're feeling, especially the ones suggesting your behavior should stray into legal gray areas.

I have 3 Halo locks and I have not experienced your issue but 1) the batteries do not last long 2) one of them has a quirk that it sometimes starts with less than the full keypad displayed.

The most satisfying punishment for what they are doing to you is the crappy life they're going to have to lead, caused by their irresponsibility and bad behavior.
