I believe this came from Medicare, not wanting an itemized invoice for $$$.I know a couple groups of doc that invest in real estate, and the always invest in specialty things like the $1M magnet in the MRI machine & the imaging center, and surgi-centers, not "generic" office space.

You can also invest in Assisted Living Facilities if you have the stomach for it (Very stressful, high staff turnover, liability magnet) and it will be a fairly profitable investment for a while yet with the aging population we have and while 500K won't get you up and running in most parts of California for the ALF business, you could quite possibly operate a 16 bed facility in Arizona without any debt with that money and usually net yourself six figures annually in returns as long as you are able to keep the property occupied.

The only options for good education is to be fortunate enough to get into the public school's magnet program, rent or buy in neighboring cities like Prattville or Wetumpka (schools are better, but still have challenges themselves), or send their children to private school which costs $10k/yr or more per child.In my opinion, there is a tremendous need for a community that caters to these families.
