I found out there was a wood burning furnace which needs to be removed per the village code. 

However, as a primary residence for me it would be ideal (my wife and I are coming back to the are from New York, and this reminds of the nicest blocks in Brooklyn, the West Village, UWS etc.).  

But there is a quaint little section that has a courtyard village feel.

Elmwood village is great but a little pricey for me at the moment, thinking about West Buffalo as well close to Richmond but not as familiar with the areas enough to feel confident (I know it's going into a Renaissance mode but like any city, has its good and bad pockets)For 2016 I plan to buy at least 2 more properties, ideally 1 as a flip and 1 SFH rental, then continue to multiply my output moving forward.Any suggestions, insight, tips, or contacts would be much appreciated, may you all have a wonderful and prosperous day ahead of you.Best Regards,Derek Browning

Anyone know any areas that seem to be on an upswing like the short north and German Village were a few years back?  

Your next best bet to find something cheap is the North End which is about 3 Miles North of Downtown, but off Woodward and Oakland Aves, or maybe the east Jefferson Area.Also, if your Spanish is pretty solid, and can handle dealing with people without a verifiable job, or immigration papers, SW Detroit, in Mexican Village could be an option.In all these places I mentioned you better be ready to dig in hard on a renovation, and take control of the property.

I owned a Co op once in Greenwich Village in New York and there was one old wood window in the studio apartment I owned with a broken window.
