A typical loan officer at a bank will likely not be familiar with real estate investing and the strategies that house hackers & other investors use.

@Kenneth Quattrocchi I'm in the Denver market, which is also pricey, but many house hackers will rent by the room in our market.

As a house hacker, I prefer ready to move in houses that have many bedrooms to rent out or can be duplexed at some point.

I think that's reasonable downside risk, especially if it's a good opportunity.I'm a Bayonne house-hacker (and agent) myself, and I think it offers great prospects as a long-term buy-and-hold.

I think it will sell quick because there is demand for that bedroom count and with the high prices of LA, can use the reliable income in the back unit towards their DTI.Last November I helped house hackers get into a duplex where one unit was below market rents.
