I can't speak for others, but I've lived in Washington my whole live and don't see Lakewood as a desirable destination.

@Andrew Neal Kings Beach is a really popular destination and we shopped there as well before getting our place in Tahoe City. 

Dallas has been one of the biggest destinations for graduates from the University of Illinois, which by most accounts is and has been one of the top 2 or3 computer science/EE programs in the country.
