Actually more, because interest is also accrued on penalties.

Their preferred return would stop accruing (because preferred return is typically calculated on unreturned capital) but the waterfall rules on distributions would be otherwise unaffected.There is another scenario where a sponsor might want to exit the investors by returning their capital plus profits. 

What is The recommendation to accrue and pay for a unexpected capital upgrades, i.e. furnace, roof, sewer, parking lot, windows, etc. when you are just covering expenses at 10/12% cash-on-chash returns?
