I think you have two options for your life/career you graduate - (1) you don't worry about the money, pursue your passion and eventually you'll be so good at whatever you do that you'll be well paid for it or (2) get the highest paying job you can then put all that extra money into investments (real estate, stocks, etc.).I chose the latter and it has worked out well so far but I know folks that have chosen the former and have done well too. 

I could have chosen to use mean, or perhaps country specific but my point was to show that doing nothing was not an option. 

Real estate is simply the vehicle I’ve chosen to get me there.

The title was chosen to get a traction of comments (which worked).

I have recently finished reading 'The book on Rental Property Investing"by Brandon Turner and I absolutely loved it; that lead me to the BP podcast and now I have joined the BP forum,with that being said I am extremely excited & motivated about this new path I have chosen.

But I can see those with limited experience not going into real estate more than their personal resi and maybe some managed funds etc.Most of those on BP have chosen this as a profession.. and stacking up rentals is a small business its not an investment per se in the context I think they are talking about.. your managing your assets and some do ok many don't.. 

I find a properly chosen tenant never leaves.

The main rule was that you ALREADY HAD TO HAVE CHOSEN AND MOVED INTO a place,  because they wouldn't risk you not getting one of the places shown.  

This year we included some goals/plans for our primary residence (turn basement into apartment, rebuild decks, design and build front porch), some personal goals (establish and maintain a healthy eating plan, go to the gym at least twice per week, read and discuss 6 books, one book is to be chosen by our partner), and business goals (find an accountant, analyze present loans and refinance if it makes sense, add 20 doors to our portfolio).
