I disagree with @James w when he says your biggest concern is what you buy and how you buy it.

However, I have to disagree, 3 of the properties I have were with some help from my folks. 

You looked at Zillow, which is notorious for being inaccurate, so if it is worth more and you are going based on that, who am I to disagree?

I only Use STR for fishing trips to remote areas that are undeserved by hotels/motels.. this summer I only looked at ones with no cleaning fees.  100 % agree with you and Russell, restaurants and hospitality businesses brought this upon themselves.For people who disagree, would you be okay with my contracting company adding 3% on your $10k bill for "clean up fee"?
