Piercing the veil is very costly, and if you create the LLCs correctly and keep good records/bookkeeping this is not much of a problem.

They actually have an excellent partnership agreement which spells out practically everything, ownership, buying in, buying out, marriage/divorce, advances, dissolution, required % for voting to add new members/properties, bookkeeping, etc.

What this looks like from the street:  the lender has got an office in a strip mall setting with small signage out front, there is a front desk receptionist and a book keeper, and that's all the staff I have seen so far.
