Kitchens workout to be something like min of 4 circuits: stove/oven if electric, two on the counter (we have microwaves and toasters), the lights have their own circuit, the range fan maybe---- okay... thats more than 4 and I don't know, that's what my licensed electrician is for.Oh, is there a fuse box or circuit breaker panel

We'll be able to get some ballpark figures on the big pieces, like solar, septic, well, etc., but we'd definitely be learning as we go along, which means there will be a lot of financial variables that we won't know about at the outset.

I usually look carefully at the most expensive things:1) Foundation/Slab - small cracking and movement are no big deal, but a large crack, settling, displacement can cost a fortune to fix.2) Plumbing - esp cast iron sewer and galvanized ( or old copper) supply lines.3) Electrical - Knob/Tube, old original romex, no grounds, small main panel.4) Structure - Check the attic (and crawlspace if there is one).

While we don't do remodel work (e.g. garage conversions), I've heard from contractors who do that the typical range for all-in costs is ~$100-120K.2) ADUs are not as wild west: in the early years, we saw inconsistent application of requirements for things like upsizing water meters & lines, soils reports, surveys, electrical panels, stormwater management (all depending on property specifics & jurisdiction).
