Have a set of children-sized dishes and utensils.

I have a small dining room table in the basement that I will set up with some dishes and flowers.

They are more work - normally the units are furnished and stocked with towels, dishes, utensils, etc. ... kind of cross between an apartment and a hotelIn your situation, I presume they are bringing their own furniture, but you may want to consider renting furnished as there is less wear and tear to your unit with all the moving in and moving out.Here we are not allowed to require or accept rent more than one rental period in advance.  

I mean maybe its because I'm the type to get stressed when theres some dishes left in the sink but how do people live and even raise kids in conditions like that?

Dishes and food in the sink, a spill (perhaps soda) that's deteriorated a good portion of the kitchen floor.

I thought it was just water left over from dishes but then it happened for the next 3 days.

During this time, she wasn't able to use or park in the garage, use the kitchen to cook ( she ate out for 3 weeks except for some microwave dishes) since there was no water in the kitchen and it smelled really bad, and there were a bunch of construction guys coming in and out, and the place was just a mess from different crews leaving junk behind after the day was over. 

I have a satellite dish on the side of a new sfr.

Nobody wants to have dusty dishes.
