Like when I didn't pull permits, I had to rip on the cabinets and tile and then abate asbestos that was under the kitchen floor tile. 

From personal experience, outdoor entertainment areas, modern kitchens, and even beach gear can make a huge difference.

To some people a $50k kitchen renovation is large scale, to others a $300k full gut remodel is large-scale.  

You don't need to provide grab bars, interior or exterior ramps, wheelchair access in lower kitchen cabinets etc.
