The news reported an incident recently where a guy was ripping off the aluminum sideing off a home that was occupied!

Taking a 3-5 year viewpoint of cash flow (review leases, rent rolls, etc.) and expenses (review tax returns, P&L statements, etc.) will allow the investor to budget for such incidents you speak of and is far more exacting then the standard rationalization you suggest.

It is great when journalists step up and do investigative pieces like this one.That said, A&E should be embarrased by this incident.

Check with the government agency that handles work related incidents.

I would definitely file an incident report.

The surprise may be on you if you have an incident and your insurer finds out you have a vacant dwelling. 

Knowing all these other incidents re-enforces my opinion of soccer.

It might possible protect you from a spurious lawsuit, but if you are liable in an incident (it can happen, even to people who are careful and have the best intentions...) then any competent lawyer will probably be able to get past the LLC to your personal assets.
