So this weekend my dad and I got the living room soffit built, set up the decking in AC closet for the air handler, framed up the openings for the return airs, installed the master bedroom door, ripped out the old tub/shower in the hall bath and built a raised deck on the backside of the house for the AC unit(were in a flood zone so I didn't want to chance my compressor going under).... and finished ripping out the last room of old drywall.

With some REOs if you're a non-owner occupant your option period is only for you to get out of the contract, but they will not refund any EM deposits.Also, when picking your inspector or GC make sure they know how to cost repairs in a home that's been winterized (water lines and gas lines capped) or electrical utilities are off.This may mean bringing an air compressor to pressure test lines and a generator to check mechanicals.

Not to mention, when repairs are needed, with a forced air furnace the entire heating part of the system is indoors (only the AC compressor is outside).

I generally won't bother with dead/dying refrigerator compressors.
