Fiberglass is the cheapest type of material that tubs are made from.I always recommend only a quality lighter weight cast iron/porcelain tub and proper ceramic tile surround with all new waste, drain, overflow, and supply piping and faucets.

I use disinfectant wipes for final touchups.My favorite kitchen degreaser is Awesome, for a buck from the Dollar Tree store - I've tested it against the more expensive ones and it beats them hands down.For getting stubborn mineral deposits and nasty rings off porcelain toilets and tubs, use plumber's open mesh cloth.

I would get rid of carpet - I have been using interlocking Home Depot Allure Ultra ~$3 SF that looks like wood in main part of house, glue strip Allure regular ~$2 SF that looks like tile in kitchen and porcelain tile in bathrooms.

On tile use ceramic or porcelain with the smallest grout lines you can get away with.
