Chairs & Choices

After a discussion with my wife about different chairs I occupy during the course of a day I came up with what I thought was a good article - but it did not make the cut so will talk about the issue here:

On any given day, you will occupy many different chairs. What you do while you are in those chairs may determine whether you become rich or poor.

Office chair: A seat where you go to make the money to pay the bills and to have some left over to save for investing. Or, a place you go to daydream about what you would do IF you had a little more money.

Bar stool: A seat to forget about all your troubles after a long day at work. You can drown all your troubles in alcohol. Some may put their goals on a napkin or write up their future business plan.

Lazy Boy Recliner: This is where the average person spends a lot of time. There are all those sports programs or action movies to watch. They can imagine themselves as the sports star or as the movie star. It is an easy escepe from their reality.

Dining Room Chair: Seat where you ingest fuel to keep going. For some it is a rather enjoyable place to become a glutton. For others it is a place do do homework, research or to draw up plans for the future.

Toilet: THe white porcelain throne. For some it is just a place to read sports magazines or look at some other types of magazines. For others it is a place to think and plan in the "thinking room".

Patio Chair: A quiet place to relax and watch life pass you by. Or the peace and quiet could provide the inspiration of good things to come.

Barber's chair or Salon Chair: A great place to rant about your mean old boss or rehash all the past week of sports. If you are not careful, you might pick up some new ideas for your future.

Driver's seat: A place you spend a lot of time in getting to and from work. When a bright idea occurs - have a notebook to wrtie it down so you can get out of the daily rat race.

Church Pew: For some it is a place to go to sit and worship. For others it is a palce to go to show how you are holier than your neighbor. You can gawk around and see who is not dressed to the hilt and make snide remarks they can overhear. You can also gossip about those that are absent.

These were just a few of the chairs or seats that you sometimes occupy from day to day. Have you ever stopped to contemplate that these might just be another tool you can add to your investing tool box? How about talking about a seat you have occupied when you got a great brainstorm to use to help you get out of the rat race? Add to my starting list above.
