This is one of the reasons that I encourage my buyers to perform their own due diligence and I steer clear of giving repair estimates.

So give us a few more details of what you were thinking of doing, and perhaps we can steer you in the right direction.

@Kewin GarabitoAny real estate salesperson involved in this transaction is also going to want to see a pre-approval.If you have a letter for X amount pre-approved, and you're looking at houses that are twice that, it will help your realtor steer you back to reality.

Perhaps the employing broker could steer them in the right direction.

If this will be your first investment, I would steer you away from them though.

I steer my clients away from this every time.

If you don't know an area look into contacing a real estate agent in the area you are interested, they can't provide direct info on safety (steering) but they can help answer questions.  

You do this so you do not steer your research to a predetermined conclusion.
