There is some framing and drywall that was put up, but that's about it.There are a few obvious things that would need to be done in order to bring the basement rooms up to code, e.g. widow wells in bedrooms and a walk-out to qualify as a second unit.

That may be fine when your young and healthy enough to earn an income and if there are two incomes in the home even better, but I recently just talked to my uncle who's been in a support group of people who lost a spouse, he said he was amazed at how many widows said you're lucky to own a home.
