Ideally, you could find something liquid (money market) or fixed for a duration until you need it (CD, etc) with a rate approximating inflation but rates (even with talk of some incremental raises coming) still won't yield much.I think you have a good point about return.

Other examples of Private Property rights under attack are when countries impose exchange controls to keep people from taking action to negate the confiscation of their accumulated wealth through rapid inflation; when government imposes ridiculous limits on individuals right to improve their real property; when restrictions are placed on assets individuals can own (it was illegal in the US to own gold bullion until our currency was no longer backed by gold); and when taxes are imposed on wealth for the purpose of redistributing that wealth.

Some folks will argue properties are typically taxed less than their fair market value, and that may be true, but it's the amount of annual taxes your pay (regardless of actual value or assessment) that will affect your bottom line.Additionally, until the recent market correction both property values and rents have increased at a rapid rate.
