I have lined up a electrician and a contractor to walk through the property.

If the scope of work is such that your municipality requires a permit (and therefore inspections) then you may need a GC or a "licensed" pro such as a plumber or electrician.

It happens when the trades (plumbers, electricians, etc.) are pulling the actual work permits. 

Be prepared to pay $75 to an electrician to flip a tripped breaker or change a ceiling light bulb, $75 to a plumber to change a flapper in a toilet or a cartridge in a faucet, $750 to replace a hot water tank, fridge, washer/dryer, $100 to a cable/internet tech to unplug and plug in a modem, the list goes on.

If you're replacing baseboard heaters, the good GC will not touch them but hire an electrician to come out (also very busy and hard to get out)4.

You don't want a situation where you have to consult 3 people on who to use as the electrician. 

I had a plummer and electrician come out and got so crazy quotes.

Once you start removing walls and drywall/plaster, you’re dealing with electricians, plumbers, carpenters, drywall, painters, etc etc etc. some people dive right in... but there’s way more opportunity for issues overruns and who knows what else.

Handymen, licensed electricians, plumbers, roofers, etc come right out to your house.
