I enjoyed hiking through the temperate rainforest out to the Tonsina Creek area.

You will generally have a harder time drawing visitors to these areas, as they are distant from the more developed parts of the island and the micro-climates in these areas are less desirable (either dense rain forest or windy and barren lava fields).And as mentioned, those areas have a bit of a reputation for being less safe, particularly for visitors (higher levels of drug use, theft, intolerance of tourists, etc.) 

(The Hoh rain forest takes much of the water.

The beaches, the mountains, rainforest, and all of the ecosystems that exist on the island are stunning.

From majestic mountains, tropical rainforests and breathtaking coasts on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Colombia has it all and is the second most biodiverse country in the world.

It was certainly arid there, with no rain and not like the typical volcanic islands which are more tropical and have hills, soil and rain forests.
