There are many ways to attempt to collect your loss:  file a small claims complaint against them; get a judgement so you can garnish future wages/bank accounts - and the judgement will be recorded in the credit bureau. 

You want to be sure your collecting all receipts, properly tracking all income and expenses and your basis for all assets properly documented and recorded. 

I get having a driver's license to verify identity, but recording your head turning like a mug shot is a little much.
