In fact I was in the Alaska board room in Portland airport one morning getting ready for a flight.. and when U check in these days you do a finger print thingee and your name pops up on a screen about the size of a I pad.. the lady behind me see's my name and says are you the JH from BP I said yeah.. and she wanted to talk. it was early so I said let me grab my Coffee and she downloads her experience with Wendall that ended up with her losing 100k or more. 

Sometimes, I had already read the articles from my own Google search.What I really wanted to know were things like “where are the bad pockets with rampant illicit activities,” “what regulations and laws the local governments might implement or enact that could affect future property value and cause demographic shifts,” “what infrastructure construction is underway,” “is the FEMA map accurate and do the local insurance companies agree with it,” “if the property is near an airport, is it in noisy flight paths,” etc.

Also I am thinking now that these are small rural counties with population in the entire county probably no more than 50k or so.. at least with most of those folks living in the city of Oroville which is right on the border with British Columbia In my flying days I would go into Oroville to get through US customs compared to going into one of the airports Airports north of Seattle .

i do not disagree with your statement and when i pay my house off next, I will use that approach and keep the HELOC as a safety net in case I need to write a big check.What I love about getting to the airport is that there are multiple ways to get there. 

Horse stable in the middle of LA, 20 acres 1/2 swamp next to major airport in Florida, church with 6 acres in the middle of town, contact bank Trust departments and let them know you want to buy.  

Plus major airports for those who like to travel.

I had some family move out here so I wanted to be closer to them, I work as a mate on ships so as long as I'm close to the airport I can get to work.
