A few hundred dollars in airfare could make or save you thousands over time.

This allows me to travel for almost free internationally every 15 months (airfare wise).I don't go out and get drinks (I'm 23 so this is not very typical) unless it's professional related and even then I do it sparingly. 

I would be satisfied if the investment paid for itself and my families airfare. 

Hi all, are expenses incurred searching for and/or purchasing (going to the closing) rental property tax deductible...whether that be mileage, or airfare to another state?

I wanted to clarify that one needs to have a rental property, with claimed income, before you can write off expenses associated with it like travel (gas or airfare) to check on it, correct?  

Note: I LOVE rewards programs- I pay for everything with my personal credit cards to gain rewards, and I consequently, I haven't paid a dime for airfare, hotels, or car rentals while vacationing in 5 years because of it.Thank you for your thoughts!

I did the credit card strategy recently, I received 120k travel points, which is sufficient for 2 roundtrip airfare tickets to almost anywhere in the world. 

Also, as I live out of state, I have to travel there to turn the house over (airfare, car rental, hotel).  

That’s like a luxury weekend at a resort, and maybe the airfare too (I’m sure your realtor loves you!!!)  

The problem they have is most places it could take months before there is a hearing, in the mean time they cannot sell their property, so you have a lot of leverage to get your money back.The out of area seller may  have book airfare and a rental car to meet with you on this.
