While you might think that there's nothing wrong about getting paid for a referral as long as it's good (I've never done it myself), the problem lies elsewhere: you have to understand that their opinion or advice could be biased or first and foremost in their own self-interest, especially if they're not disclosing their financial interest.

The contractors they send out are not making a lot of money unless it is a major repair, so they are biased towards replacing the water heater (or whatever) instead of fixing it.

@Juan David MaldonadoUnfortunately, with recency bias of buying any home and turning it into an investment property and having it make money over the past five years, that no longer holds true.Real estate will begin to normalize aa interest rates are not artificially kept low.

People who did it wrong and weren't able to execute.If you do it right, it’s statistically the best market in the country for cash flow.I'm pretty biased towards Metro Detroit...HOWEVER, I do personally make over $100k/yr cash flow from 16 properties here.
