Likely, the contractor will have some issues with the asphalt layer, but honestly, I've seen Starbucks constructed on asphalt parking lots.

Asphalt Shingle lifespan is around 10-15 years (we prefer to use lighter roofing materials and lighter materials in California for Seismic reasons) comparing to metal which is 30-45 years, much heavier product.2.
