You are getting an owner occupant loan on a duplex and you have an intention of moving out down the road and renting out both sides.Number 1 is fraud, and yes you would sign papers affirming that it is your homestead which would amount to fraud.Number 2 is NOT fraud, and I have never seen anything requiring notification if you move out.Moving out without notification was the specific point I was addressing.

@Joe Gore   Not likely  unless its high end stuff at the other end of the spectrum  where it makes no sense to buy it from an asset manager when you just wait for it to be listed and all the hair is off it then you negotiate for the buy..

Like many bad tenants she decided to make up habitability issues as a affirmative defense.

You can split hairs all you want whether its a "business," but what you are doing doesn't raise itself to being an active income source. 

Who knows they may be able to work something out with you and elevate the situation a hair.

My intent for this posting was to affirm that the charges I'm seeing is the norm, not to make false accusations.

My opinion the differences in money one with your amount of cash on hand would make in choosing one market over the other is splitting hairs.
