One is a horrible Saturday on the road and one is a flight, hotel, rental car, etc. 

They may be more flexible on employment status than typical commercial flights. - In line with hard money lenders you could look to p2p lending platforms like Lending Club. - One other option is borrowing against your existing property but don't know if that is worth the risk- Some local banks or community development financial institutions might be open to giving you a loan even with your circumstances if it falls within their community / social mandates. - Even if the person you are thinking of can't help you, maybe there are folks on bigger pockets who want to go in on this with you esp. if you have the deal sourced...I can't tell you if any of these are the right solutions, completely depends on your specific circumstances but hopefully some avenues you can explore!

I rent to a lot of military personnel and live in an area that is dominated by student flight training.  

Life flight was alerted and it was they who took me to the nearest Intensive Care Unit where I began my triumphant recovery.

I do that flight very often, sometimes even flying up and back in the same day.

Direct flights from DC to Charlotte/Raleigh are easily accessible and I have friends in those areas.

For date night, there is so much to do: Overton Square, Cooper-Young, downtime dining scene (Flight is our favorite), Orpheum, Grizzlies, concerts, not to mention the dining scene, especially what has popped up on Brookhaven Circle.  

Side by side feels more like your own space versus having someone clomping above you or having to walk up a flight of stairs to get into your unit.
