@Balaji Devendran A garage conversion to ADU in Orange County is running between $90-150k right now.A new ADU above a garage is more expensive...probably around $450-500/sf.In order to determine how many ADUs you can build on your property, you need to either go to your City's Building/Planning Department and ask them or find a local architect/designer who knows the city's ADU guidelines.If you want to DM me...I can provide you an ADU resource guide for all OC cities and some OC contractor recommendations.

We have already looked at the county and preapproved plans and one actually might work perfectly for the space and just needs an architect to review and do the site plan, Title 24, etc....We have talked to the county and are under County Jurisdiction, and have plenty of room for the ADU in a newly excavated part of the property.

Good day, I hope this is posted in the right forum and I can really get some positive and perhaps local feedback.So company says I need an architect to do the drawing and submit to county to raise a portion of the roof by 2 block height.

@Dave Dunaway if you are in the city limits you need to work with permitting...you need a plan and have to get that plan approved...depending on the scope of the project, you could require an architect for the design and permitting...if this is just a SFR one-off project you don't need the formality... the bottom line is that you need egress....usually an egress window.You will bump up against fire codes here as well.https://www.columbus.gov/bzs/p...
