I think it has been much more geographically segmented, more of a 'big city' thing and further fueled by politicians and activists; but I am looking forward hearing what to what others have to say.

All of the near western suburbs have strict zoning laws, and you don't find out about the issues that will come up until the seller orders/pays for the inspection.

We’re evaluating doing vacation rentals in the western NC mountains.

Central and Western Mass is more doable but again in some areas can be pricey. 

The county has 3 steel mills, BP, a billion union jobs, plus whatever is available in Chicago and the western suburbs.
