Most of the MF opportunities that existed in the area 2 and 3 years ago have been picked over like crazy and whatever exists today will need quite a bit of close examination, this climate is very unfriendly to any outdoor building products, especially wood.

We've got beautiful hiking throughout the state, access to beaches all along the eastern coast, Boston and NYC are in easy striking distance, a great airport with no traffic (Bradley), mostly wonderful schools, relatively low priced housing in much of the state, decent climate, a mostly liberal and tolerant social climate, and still plenty of corporate employers.

In cold climates you want to make sure the deepened perimeter of the slab is below the frost line so the expansion of frozen soil doesn't heave the building up, but if it has been fine since the 50's you should be ok.
