A faux wood look with an almost black or dark grey siding would help distract the eye.But, all of this costs money, and typically beyond some cleanup and fresh paint, on a rental is the best bang for your buck.

Kitchen: at first glance it looks rough, but you could easily remove the water damaged wood below the sink and replace it with plywood.

There is quite a lot of wood rot on the exterior as well. 

My daughter and her roommate found out that the new tenants were paying only $1750 for a way better unit (larger, fireplace, wood floors, etc.).

My property management company was "negligent" in keeping moss and algae from growing on the wood steps, rendering them slippery after a rain.
