The soil here causes a lot of settling.

So I gave in and bought the white enamel steel shelf with hangar rod underneath.

That is because you might run into a really deep patch of top soil that has to be removed and replaced with clay.

That makes an enormous difference.You can also get rubber floor insulation that goes underneath your tile/hardwoods.And don't forget the power of furniture.
