Lastly, don't buy into all the anti-NYS stuff.

CA is still attracting tons of top tier talent (engineering, finance, medicine, bio-tech) who earn a high enough wage to afford a quality life in CA, which in turn drives prices up.You less frequently hear stories from the engineer/medicine/bio-tech families .

You would think the rules would be so anti LL that buyers would dry up, prices would fall, and returns would go up until the pricing was such that it was wroth the risk.But instead, the prices are high, returns are low, and you have to deal with an unfriendly government.   

We are thinking of getting out of the rental business as we feel the anti landlord policy trends will continue, hope im wrong.

Economists on both the left and right are anti rent control.  

However the permitting costs, time involved, and (this being in seattle) the extreme anti-landlord policies in place there means I have little incentive to do so.   

OP if you need some of the DR medicine (or the AA medicine, or the cancer treatment, or the cough syrup) is kind of up to you and your personal needs, not up to anyone else.

If you don't believe that, just read through the multitude of threads right here on BP that go along the lines of "I think I could retire early and try doing this full time, or try another business, but I can't afford the health insurance/have some crazy-expensive medicine and can't take the chance."
