I was doing some plumbing this past weekend connecting CPVC to cast iron and the 3/4" CPVC compression fittings will fit around the 1/2" iron pipe.I don't think the sharkbites or the white plastic compression fittings will work though just the CPVC compression fittings.Here's a picture of it:They are $3.92

FWIW, the bath ceiling is plastic tile in a drop grid. 

At a micro level, if those jet fittings in the tub are white plastic that has turned yellow, you can make them look at lot better by removing them and spraying them with white spray paint that is intended to adhere to plastic.At a macro level, if you want to modernize the bathroom with a lot of work, move the toilet to the shower area and enclose it in a separate room.

Roll them up, wrap them in heavy plastic (contractor grade trash bags work well) and store them in the basement.

If you DIY, then the best plan I've seen is tape painter's plastic all around and over the floor.

If it is a standard size and in a rental use one of those ABS plastic pans.

E.g. if I put a $20 plastic faucet in and have to come out twice a year and replace it, that's wasted money if if they have a lifetime warranty on them.On the low end, people are happy with the basic stuff.

I've even had stained trim as well as that pre-finished plastic looking trim.  

Instead of the popular corrugated bandit signs with wire stakes, I'm looking for 9X12 plastic signs that I can staple to telephone poles.
