Your tenants will love it, you can refinish it if need be, and it adds character/charm. 

They take pride in their building and give character to the area.

Defamation of character?

Look for integrity, character, and a standard that's required of all members in terms of how you do business and treat one-another.  

I think of mine more like a granny unit so it is more like an actual small house with character rather than a cheap trailer home plus its not on wheels but a pier block foundation. 

Look for stable, safe neighborhoods, ideally single family in character.

I imagine most people who actually have an ugly house would be more apt to think of it as "has character" or "scrappy" so I think you're on the right track. 

It was a painful experience to have this totally unexpected attack on my character and competency on a day when I could have chosen to be enjoying my family out on the lake.
