Not sure how you'd check 'credit' per sé, but you can ask for references for sure. 

You have in all likelihood been duped by some guru :).Wholesaling is not illegal per se in Massachusetts.  

It starts to get more complex, per se, when you have multiple properties or are tapping into creative financing.
