In our Villa Park rehab, due to the strong rains a couple of weeks ago, our unit's basement got flooded (by an inch of water) because the sump pump is not working and we had to pay the next door neighbor $250 for the damage caused by the water from our unit.

IF it is a real bugger, comes off in small piees and fights you every square inch,,,and trim doesnt allow the 1/4" growth in depth,,,then MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, cut the drywall off the wall and redrywall from scratch.
