Quick fix would be paint cabinets and then replace the cheap countertop with a butcher block or updated laminate.

Well, he might qualify, LOL, most that get on here are borrowing from granny or uncle Ned the butcher shop owner or whatever. 

The house is outdated, ugly wall paper, laminate butcher block kitchen counters, appliances are old but they do work, and needs a coat of fresh paint.
