Most landlords nowadays are afraid of being sued, so all they will tell you are dates of residency, and then only if you send them a fax with a permission signed by their former tenant.I think you should just pay for a screening service, like the one we used.  

You could also try to create a local media buzz that would drive clients to your tiny vacation.

The other problem with a punch code system, where strangers can be on the street and punch codes until someone answers, means that some stranger will be buzzing me.
