Soak the bottoms of the new columns in liquid epoxy or something (save the old columns, saw them off or patch and use on another property) and make sure she knows how well you did all this.

Of course this soaked the soil in and around the foundation on that side of the house, and when the holes were left open, water then trickled into the holes.
