They don't have to rent/buy an office, no secretary, they can use their cell phone, one computer and printer, etc. 300 units will require 2-4 more employees, an office space, more desks and computers and phones.

@Sherman Cummings A tip that might be useful - since you're just starting out and still figuring out your niche, you may want to print your own using office supply business cards (the blank ones) and a basic printer.

Let applicants know that you WILL run credit/criminal/eviction checks -- you are not just collecting app fees to line your pocket.Bring a computer printer/copier to the showing.

You could offer to help out a busy individual agent by doing some buyer showings, running errands like going to the printer or filling flyer boxes etc for an hour fee.

For the yellow letters I bought my own printer that could print envelopes and ended up breaking even compared to paying someone to do the mailing on the first 500 letters.
